Alex Brown Biography
Catching and hitting coach Alex Brown believes that there always is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Brown’s coaching philosophy holds true that hard work is a pleasure, because success comes after the hard work. The first-year Gecko assistant coach looks forward to inspiring those he trains and providing the specialized instruction that baseball teams need.
“I hope to teach about success on both the individual and team level… individual success in self-esteem and overall success in teamwork.”
Brown has years of baseball experience under his belt, both as a coach and as a player. He was previously coaching at Marcos De Niza High School from 2002-06, Gilbert High School in 2001, South Mountain High School from 1998-2000, and Tolleson High School from 1993-97. Brown helped lead Tolleson to the divisional playoffs in 1995-96, and also Marcos De Niza in 2005-06.
He played professional baseball in Mexico in 1984, as catcher for the Agua Prieta Vaqueros (Toros) in the La Frontera league. Prior to professional play, he was catcher for the University of Texas El Paso Miners from 1981-83 and for the Cochise College Apaches from 1979-80. He finished his education with an electromechanical specialist in computer design degree from ITT Technical Institute.
Brown; a Douglas, AZ native; moved to Gilbert in 1986 to work for Southwest Gas, where he currently serves as a construction crew leader.
He currently resides in Gilbert with his wife of 17 years, Elaine; and his three children. Brown is a Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Suns fan who enjoys baseball, fishing and spending time with his family.
