Rob Shabansky Biography

Head coach Rob Shabansky connects with his players in a special way because he was once in their shoes. The former Diamondbacks organization pitcher knows what it takes to excel in baseball, and he uses his experience to instill a certain methodology in his athletes.

“It’s about concentrating on fundamentals and having a lot of fun.  I can relate to them on a personal level rather than just a player-coach level; with injuries and having the highs and lows, because I [experienced] it all.  I’m just trying to keep guys relaxed and ready to play.”

The Las Vegas, NV native says that his goal is to help guide the Geckos to a national championship.  On an individual level, he wants to help each student-athlete advance their baseball careers as well as work towards a diploma.

Shabansky’s previous coaching experience includes giving private lessons at Ballpark Arizona in 2004 and coaching at Las Vegas Baseball Academy from 1996-2003.

He has an extensive history playing baseball.  From 2000-02, he was involved with the Diamondbacks organization, earning all-star distinction in 2000 in the Pioneer League.  He pitched for the University of Arizona in Tucson from 1996-2000.  Shabansky currently holds the Wildcat record for the most wins in the 1990s, while earning the most inspirational player award in 1998 and 2000.  He was also named the Nevada State Player of the Year in 1995 while pitching for Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

Shabansky earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in history in 2000 from U of A.  He also works as loan director for The MVP Team Security Mortgage Corporation in Scottsdale.

Shabansky currently resides in Scottsdale with his wife Lisa.  In his free time, he enjoys fishing and playing golf.
