Andrew Ostrander

First year head coach Andrew Ostrander joins GateWay with experience and a contagious energy as head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Born in Michigan, Ostrander grew up as a multi-sport athlete playing tennis, basketball, baseball and football.  He moved to Arizona his senior year and graduated from Maryvale High School in Phoenix.  While earning his bachelors degree in Business from Arizona State University, he also taught tennis and created the Golden Key National Tennis Classic.  Ostrander is also the founder of Heart’s Delight Salsa, has had his own PR firm -  Dolphin Promotions, and has worked with Scottsdale Culinary Institute and Valley of the Sun United Way, promoting partnership opportunities with the four local professional sports franchises.  He currently works in Investments/Real Estate for Keller Williams Integrity First Realty.

As a tennis player, Ostrander plays in a variety of USTA tournaments and is a two-time Gold Medalist in the Grand Canyon State Games, winning in the singles and mixed doubles competitions. Winning gold medals in both, he was re-energized with a thirst to become involved in coaching and tennis once again.

Ostrander’s philosophy is reflected in his comment, “Much of tennis is learning the perfect combination of physical performance and mental sharpness.”  As the new Gecko’s head coach, he is excited to build winning programs for both men and women and plans to teach his athletes how to strategically win close matches and ensure that they are conditioned in order to be successful.

As a coach, Ostrander values punctuality, focus, and hard work to create depth in each player’s game as a recipe for success.  Ostrander looks forward to the synergy that will be created by heading both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs and is actively building a program one athlete at a time.  He is looking for players who are willing to work hard to become winners.

When he is not around a tennis court, Coach Ostrander enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with his daughter (heavily involved in music and drama) and his son (a college volleyball player and golfer).  He also loves movies and collecting sports memorabilia.
