Rachel Valenzuela Biography

Rachel Valenzuela is in her second year as the infield and catching coach for the Geckos softball team.  The assistant coach brings a multi-faceted approach to the program with her playing and umpiring background.

“I really want for the girls to get good knowledge and understanding of the game. Success will come with hard work and dedication.  It’s not all about having fun and being there; it’s about having passion for what they want to do.”

Valenzuela has been involved with the game of softball for over 20 years.  She was previously catcher for Eastern New Mexico University from 1998-2000.  Prior, she played at Scottsdale Community College from 1996-97 and at South Mountain Community College from 1997-98, when the Cougars went to the regional playoffs.

In between and after playing, she gave hitting lessons at SMCC and started her career as an umpire.  Valenzuela umpired at softball games in public high schools in the Phoenix area, ASA fast pitch softball and USSSA softball.

She is currently pursuing a physical education degree and would like to eventually be a softball head coach.
